Operation and Maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (MBBR) at Al-Rimal Compound

Operation and Maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (MBBR) at Al-Rimal Compound

Project Overview

The project involves the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and performance management of the Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) serving Al-Rimal Compound in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The wastewater treatment facility is designed to treat domestic wastewater generated by the residential compound. Publicly available project information identifies the Al-Remal Compound MBBR sewage treatment plant as having a treatment capacity of approximately 1,200 m³/day.

The primary objective of the operation and maintenance services is to maintain continuous and reliable plant operation, optimize biological treatment performance, ensure treated effluent quality, minimize equipment downtime, and support environmentally responsible wastewater management.

The MBBR process utilizes attached-growth microorganisms supported on floating media within aerated biological reactors. This provides a robust biological treatment process capable of handling variations in wastewater loading while maintaining effective removal of organic pollutants.

Scope of Work

  • Operation and monitoring of the MBBR wastewater treatment plant.
  • Routine inspection of treatment units and process equipment.
  • Operation and maintenance of pumps, blowers, mixers, screens, and valves.
  • Monitoring of key process parameters and treated effluent quality.
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Maintenance of instrumentation, control panels, and automation systems.
  • Chemical dosing and disinfection system operation.
  • Sludge handling and disposal management.
  • Routine wastewater sampling and performance monitoring.
  • Troubleshooting and breakdown response.
  • Maintaining plant operating and maintenance records.
  • Compliance with HSE and environmental requirements.
  • Preparation of daily and monthly O&M reports.
  • Optimization of plant performance, energy consumption, and equipment reliability.

Technological Impact

The operation and maintenance of the MBBR Wastewater Treatment Plant at Al-Rimal Compound enhances treatment efficiency and plant reliability through optimized biological treatment, automated process monitoring, and effective equipment maintenance. It supports consistent treated-effluent quality, reduces energy consumption and equipment downtime, improves asset life, and promotes environmentally sustainable wastewater management.
