Operation and Maintenance & Training of Wastewater Treatment Plant in New Cairo City

Project Overview

This project, undertaken for the New Urban Communities Authority, involves the comprehensive operation, maintenance, and training services for the Wastewater Treatment Plant in New Cairo City. The project aims to ensure the efficient, reliable, and sustainable treatment of wastewater while maintaining compliance with environmental regulations and operational standards. In addition to operation and maintenance activities, the project includes specialised training programmes to enhance the technical capabilities of operation and maintenance teams, improve plant management practices, and support the long-term reliability and sustainability of wastewater treatment infrastructure in New Cairo City.

Scope of Work

The project encompasses the complete operation, maintenance, and training activities associated with the wastewater treatment plant, including:

  • Continuous operation and monitoring of all wastewater treatment processes.
  • Preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of pumps, motors, blowers, valves, generators, electrical panels, and treatment equipment.
  • Operation and maintenance of treatment units, including inlet works, screening systems, grit removal units, biological treatment units, sedimentation tanks, filtration systems, sludge handling facilities, and disinfection systems.
  • Operation and maintenance of SCADA, instrumentation, automation, and process control systems where applicable.
  • Monitoring treatment efficiency, wastewater quality parameters, and laboratory analysis to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
  • Inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of pipelines, tanks, pumping systems, and associated infrastructure.
  • Emergency response and troubleshooting to minimise operational interruptions.
  • Sludge management and monitoring of treatment by-products in accordance with environmental requirements.
  • Spare parts management, equipment condition assessment, and replacement of deteriorated components.
  • Development and implementation of technical training programmes for operation and maintenance personnel covering plant operation, equipment maintenance, safety procedures, emergency response, and best practices.
  • Preparation of operational reports, performance analyses, and technical documentation in accordance with New Urban Communities Authority requirements.
  • Implementation of occupational health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards throughout all project activities.

Technological Impact

The project enhances the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of wastewater treatment operations through the integration of advanced technologies and modern operation and maintenance practices. The implementation of SCADA systems, real-time monitoring, automated process control, predictive maintenance strategies, and digital asset management improves operational visibility, enables early fault detection, and optimises treatment plant performance.

The technical training programmes strengthen the capabilities of operation and maintenance teams, support knowledge transfer, and promote the adoption of modern wastewater management practices. These technological and operational improvements contribute to reducing downtime, improving energy efficiency, extending equipment life cycles, ensuring consistent treatment quality, and supporting sustainable wastewater management in New Cairo City.
