8,000 CMD RO Desalination Plant – JV with SUEZ PepsiCo (Saudi Snack Foods Company)

Project Overview

The Supply and Installation of Electromechanical Systems for the 8,000 CMD Reverse Osmosis (RO) Desalination Plant in Dammam is a high-profile industrial water treatment project. Executed as an Equipment Provider Joint Venture (JV) with SUEZ for the PepsiCo International Family (Saudi Snack Foods Company), this facility is engineered to deliver an ultra-reliable, high-purity water supply that meets the stringent quality requirements essential for large-scale food and beverage manufacturing.

Scope of Work

Acting as the electromechanical installation lead for the JV, the scope encompasses the complete physical deployment and integration of the plant’s mechanical and electrical infrastructure to achieve a continuous daily output of 8,000 cubic meters per day:

  • Equipment Supply & Rigging: Procurement, delivery, precise mounting, and alignment of heavy-duty RO skids, high-pressure pumps, and advanced membrane arrays.

  • Hygienic Piping Integration: Fabrication and installation of specialized piping networks, utilizing food-grade, high-pressure stainless steel alloys (such as SS316L) for high-pressure lines and chemical-resistant materials for low-pressure permeate and dosing distribution.

  • Electrical & Control Systems: Complete deployment of the electrical infrastructure, including Motor Control Centers (MCC), variable frequency drives (VFDs), cable routing, and the wiring of sensitive field instrumentation.

  • Automation & Commissioning: Seamless integration of plant controls with the central SCADA/PLC systems, enabling fully automated operation, real-time water quality monitoring, and rapid fail-safe protocols.

Technical Architecture

Designed to perform under demanding industrial conditions while adhering to global food safety standards, the plant’s architecture includes:

  • Robust Pretreatment: Advanced primary filtration stages designed to treat varying feed water qualities, removing suspended solids and protecting the highly sensitive RO membranes from biological and particulate fouling.

  • High-Efficiency RO Skids: State-of-the-art reverse osmosis configuration optimized to maximize water recovery (permeate yield) while maintaining exact mineral and purity profiles required for PepsiCo's production lines.

  • CIP & Chemical Dosing: Integrated, automated Clean-In-Place (CIP) systems and precision chemical dosing stations (antiscalants, sanitizers) to maintain membrane integrity and ensure uninterrupted facility operation.

Strategic Impact

Located in Dammam’s industrial hub, this project directly supports PepsiCo’s operational resilience and sustainability targets in the region. By leveraging the combined expertise of the JV with SUEZ, the project guarantees a highly efficient, automated water treatment solution that underpins continuous snack and beverage production while adhering to top-tier global food safety and environmental standards.
