Project Overview
This project, carried out for the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Defense, involves the integration of deep wells with the new desalination plant in Al Duwadimi Governorate.
The project aims to integrate groundwater sources with the newly constructed desalination plant to ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply while enhancing the overall efficiency and resilience of the water production and distribution system. The works include the hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and control system integration required to establish seamless operation between the deep wells and the desalination facility.
The project supports the Ministry of Defense’s water infrastructure by improving system reliability, optimising water resource utilisation, enhancing operational flexibility, and ensuring the continuous delivery of treated water in accordance with approved engineering and environmental standards.
Scope of Work
The project includes comprehensive integration and connection works between the deep wells and the desalination plant, including:
- Site surveys and assessment of deep wells, desalination plant facilities, and integration requirements.
- Installation and connection of transmission pipelines linking the deep wells to the new desalination plant.
- Installation and integration of deep well pumps, discharge pipelines, valves, fittings, and associated mechanical equipment.
- Execution of mechanical works required for the complete integration of the groundwater extraction system with the desalination plant.
- Installation and connection of electrical systems, power distribution panels, and Motor Control Centres (MCCs).
- Installation of instrumentation, automation systems, and SCADA systems where applicable for monitoring and operational control.
- Integration of electrical control systems for deep well pumps and desalination plant equipment.
- Hydrostatic testing, leak testing, and inspection of pipelines and associated equipment.
- Testing, commissioning, and performance verification of the integrated system.
- Calibration of instrumentation and verification of control system functionality.
- Preparation of technical documentation, testing reports, operation manuals, and as-built drawings.
- Providing technical support during start-up and initial operation.
- Ensuring compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements throughout project execution.
Technological Impact
The project enhances the reliability and efficiency of the water production system in Al Duwadimi Governorate by integrating deep groundwater wells with a modern desalination plant into a unified operational system. This integration improves water resource management, stabilises water supply, and enhances the operational performance of pumping and treatment systems.
