Operation and Maintenance & Training of: 1. Intake Pumping Station 2. Potable Water Treatment Plant

Project Overview

This project, undertaken for the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority, involves the comprehensive operation, maintenance, and training services for the Intake Pumping Station and the Potable Water Treatment Plant. The project aims to ensure the continuous abstraction, treatment, and supply of safe potable water while maintaining high standards of operational reliability, environmental compliance, and safety. In addition to operation and maintenance activities, the project includes specialised training programmes to enhance the technical capabilities of operation and maintenance personnel, ensuring efficient plant operation, equipment reliability, and long-term sustainability of the water supply facilities.

Scope of Work

The project encompasses the complete operation, maintenance, and training activities associated with the intake pumping station and potable water treatment plant, including:

  • Continuous operation and monitoring of the intake pumping station and all water treatment processes.
  • Preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, generators, electrical panels, and treatment equipment.
  • Operation and maintenance of water treatment units, including intake facilities, screening systems, coagulation and flocculation units, sedimentation tanks, filtration systems, chemical dosing systems, disinfection units, and treated water storage facilities.
  • Operation and maintenance of SCADA, instrumentation, automation, and process control systems where applicable.
  • Monitoring raw and treated water quality through laboratory testing to ensure compliance with potable water standards.
  • Inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of pipelines, reservoirs, pumping systems, and associated infrastructure.
  • Optimisation of treatment and pumping processes to improve operational efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
  • Emergency response and troubleshooting to minimise operational interruptions.
  • Spare parts management, equipment condition assessment, and replacement of deteriorated components.
  • Development and implementation of technical training programmes covering plant operation, equipment maintenance, safety procedures, emergency response, and best operational practices.
  • Preparation of operational reports, performance analyses, and technical documentation in accordance with project requirements.
  • Implementation of occupational health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards throughout all project activities.

Technological Impact

The project enhances the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of potable water production and distribution through the integration of advanced operation and maintenance technologies. The implementation of SCADA systems, real-time monitoring, automated process control, predictive maintenance strategies, and digital asset management improves operational visibility, enables early fault detection, and optimises both pumping station and treatment plant performance.

The technical training programmes strengthen the capabilities of operation and maintenance teams, facilitate knowledge transfer, and promote the adoption of modern water treatment and pumping management practices. These technological and operational improvements contribute to improving water quality, reducing downtime, increasing energy efficiency, extending equipment service life, and ensuring a reliable and sustainable potable water supply for the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority's facilities.
