Operation and Maintenance of Water Treatment Plant in Abu Arif City, Suez Governorate

Project Overview

This project, undertaken for the National Authority for Potable Water and Sewage (NAPWASD), involves the comprehensive operation and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant in Abu Arif City, Suez Governorate. The project aims to ensure the continuous production and distribution of safe, high-quality potable water in accordance with national drinking water standards. Through efficient plant operation and proactive maintenance, the project enhances water quality, operational reliability, and the sustainability of the water supply system while supporting public health and regional development.

Scope of Work

The project encompasses the complete operation and maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and civil assets associated with the water treatment plant. Key activities include:

  • Continuous operation and monitoring of all water treatment processes.
  • Preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, generators, electrical panels, and process equipment.
  • Operation and maintenance of treatment units, including intake facilities, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection systems.
  • Operation and maintenance of SCADA, instrumentation, automation, and control systems where applicable.
  • Routine monitoring of water quality parameters to ensure compliance with drinking water standards.
  • Inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of pipelines, storage tanks, chemical dosing systems, and associated infrastructure.
  • Emergency response and breakdown maintenance to minimise operational interruptions.
  • Spare parts management, asset condition assessment, and replacement of deteriorated equipment.
  • Preparation of operational reports, laboratory records, performance analyses, and compliance documentation in accordance with NAPWASD requirements.
  • Implementation of occupational health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards throughout all project activities.

Technological Impact

The project enhances the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of potable water production by integrating advanced operation and maintenance practices with modern treatment technologies. The implementation of SCADA systems, real-time process monitoring, automated control systems, predictive maintenance strategies, and data-driven asset management enables continuous supervision of treatment processes, rapid fault detection, and optimized plant performance. These technologies improve water quality, reduce operational downtime, optimise chemical and energy consumption, extend the service life of critical assets, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Furthermore, digital monitoring and performance analytics support informed operational decision-making and contribute to the long-term sustainability and resilience of the water treatment infrastructure in Suez Governorate.
