Project Overview
The Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of the Sewage Water Treatment Plant (Phase II) in Wadi Ad-Dawasir Governorate (28,000 m3/day) is a critical municipal infrastructure initiative managed under the National Water Company (NWC). Along with subsidiaries. This project focuses on the continuous, efficient, and compliant lifecycle management of the municipal wastewater facility, ensuring it operates at peak capacity to safeguard public health and protect local water resources.
Scope of Work
As a comprehensive O&M contract, the primary objective is to transition from project delivery to sustainable, uninterrupted daily operations. The core responsibilities include:
-
Continuous Facility Operation: 24/7 management of the plant via SCADA/PLC systems, optimizing hydraulic flows, managing diurnal peak loads, and minimizing overall energy consumption.
-
Preventative & Corrective Maintenance: Executing scheduled servicing and rapid-response repairs for all electromechanical assets, including lift pumps, aeration blowers, mechanical screens, and chemical dosing pumps, to guarantee zero operational downtime.
-
Laboratory & Quality Control: Conducting daily on-site sampling and rigorous chemical and biological testing to monitor critical influent and effluent parameters (BOD, COD, TSS, Ammonia, and pH) for strict regulatory compliance.
-
Sludge Handling & Logistics: Efficient operation of sludge thickening and dewatering equipment (such as filter presses or decanter centrifuges) to reduce sludge volume for safe, cost-effective transport and disposal.
Technical Processes Managed
The operations team is responsible for optimizing a multi-stage biological treatment train to process fluctuating municipal loads effectively:
-
Preliminary & Primary Treatment: Maintenance of automated bar screens, grit removal chambers, and primary clarifiers to protect downstream electromechanical equipment from debris and heavy solids.
-
Biological Treatment: Precise control of the aeration basins—managing dissolved oxygen (DO) levels, Return Activated Sludge (RAS) rates, and biomass health (MLSS concentration)—to ensure the maximum breakdown of organic matter.
-
Tertiary Treatment & Disinfection: Overseeing final filtration stages (e.g., sand or multimedia filters) and regulating the chlorination or UV disinfection systems to produce safe, high-quality Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE).
Strategic & Environmental Impact
Aligned with NWC’s mandate and the sustainability pillars of Saudi Vision 2030, the rigorous operation of the Wadi Ad-Dawasir Phase II plant directly mitigates the risk of groundwater contamination. By consistently producing high-quality TSE, the facility promotes sustainable water reuse for agricultural and municipal irrigation, supporting environmental resilience in the region.
