Operation and Maintenance & Training of Wastewater Treatment Plant in Al Shorouk City

Project Overview

This project, undertaken for the New Urban Communities Authority, involves comprehensive operation, maintenance, and training services for the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Al Shorouk City. The project aims to ensure the continuous, efficient, and reliable operation of the treatment plant while maintaining compliance with environmental regulations, operational standards, and sustainability objectives. In addition to operation and maintenance activities, the project includes specialised training programmes to enhance the technical capabilities of operation and maintenance personnel, improve plant management practices, and ensure the long-term sustainability and performance of the wastewater treatment facility.

Scope of Work

The project encompasses complete operation, maintenance, and training activities for the wastewater treatment plant, including:

  • Continuous operation and monitoring of all wastewater treatment processes and plant facilities.
  • Preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of mechanical, electrical, electromechanical, and control systems.
  • Operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment units, including screening systems, grit removal units, biological treatment units, aeration tanks, sedimentation tanks, sludge treatment systems, and disinfection units.
  • Operation and maintenance of pumps, blowers, valves, motors, generators, electrical panels, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Monitoring influent and treated wastewater quality through laboratory testing to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
  • Operation and maintenance of SCADA, instrumentation, automation, and process control systems where applicable.
  • Optimisation of treatment processes to improve efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and enhance treated water quality.
  • Inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of pipelines, tanks, channels, and associated infrastructure.
  • Emergency response, troubleshooting, and corrective actions to minimise operational interruptions.
  • Spare parts management, equipment condition assessment, and replacement of deteriorated components.
  • Development and implementation of technical training programmes for operation and maintenance personnel covering plant operation, equipment maintenance, safety procedures, emergency response, and best practices.
  • Preparation of operational reports, performance evaluations, and technical documentation in accordance with New Urban Communities Authority requirements.
  • Implementation of occupational health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards throughout all project activities.

Technological Impact

The project enhances the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of wastewater treatment operations in Al Shorouk City through the integration of advanced operation and maintenance technologies. The implementation of SCADA systems, real-time monitoring, automated process control, predictive maintenance strategies, and digital asset management improves operational visibility, enables early fault detection, and optimises treatment plant performance.

The technical training programmes strengthen the capabilities of operation and maintenance teams, support knowledge transfer, and promote the adoption of modern wastewater management practices. These technological and operational improvements contribute to improving treatment efficiency, reducing operational costs, increasing energy efficiency, extending equipment service life, ensuring environmental compliance, and supporting the sustainable operation of the wastewater treatment plant in Al Shorouk City.
