Project Overview
This project, carried out for the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Defense, involves the replacement of sand filters for the Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant serving the Administration and Accommodation Camps in As Sulayyil City.
The project aims to enhance the performance and reliability of the RO desalination system by replacing existing inefficient or deteriorated sand filtration units with new high-efficiency filtration equipment. The upgraded pre-treatment system improves the quality of feed water supplied to the RO units, enhances membrane protection, and ensures stable and efficient desalination operations.
The project supports the Ministry of Defense’s efforts to maintain reliable water supply infrastructure by improving treatment efficiency, reducing operational issues, extending RO membrane service life, and ensuring continuous production of high-quality treated water.
Scope of Work
The project includes the complete replacement and upgrading of sand filtration systems, including:
- Inspection and assessment of existing sand filter units and associated components.
- Removal and disposal of existing damaged or inefficient sand filters.
- Supply and installation of new sand filter vessels and filtration media according to required specifications.
- Replacement and installation of associated piping, valves, fittings, and accessories.
- Modification and connection of the new filtration system with the existing RO plant.
- Installation and adjustment of control components and instrumentation where required.
- Testing and commissioning of the new sand filtration system to verify proper operation.
- Performance testing to ensure effective pre-treatment and improved water quality.
- Inspection and quality control of all installation activities.
- Preparation of technical documentation, equipment manuals, testing reports, and commissioning records.
- Ensuring compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements throughout project execution.
Technological Impact
The project improves the efficiency and reliability of the RO desalination plant by upgrading the pre-treatment stage through the installation of modern sand filtration systems. Improved filtration performance reduces suspended solids and contaminants entering the RO system, protects membranes from fouling, and enhances overall water production efficiency.
The project contributes to sustainable water management by reducing maintenance requirements, extending the operational life of RO components, improving energy efficiency, and ensuring a stable supply of high-quality treated water for the Administration and Accommodation Camps in As Sulayyil City. It supports the implementation of modern water treatment technologies and best engineering practices within Ministry of Defense facilities.
