Project Overview
This project, carried out for the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Water & Electricity, involves comprehensive operation and maintenance services for King Abdullah Developed Housing Sewage Treatment Plant in Dehma City, equipped with a Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) treatment system.
The project aims to ensure the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of the wastewater treatment plant through specialised operation management and the implementation of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programmes.
The project focuses on maintaining the efficiency of the SBR biological treatment process, ensuring compliance with environmental standards, improving plant reliability, and supporting sustainable wastewater management for King Abdullah Developed Housing facilities.
It contributes to enhancing wastewater infrastructure performance by optimising treatment processes, extending equipment service life, reducing operational risks, and ensuring the production of high-quality treated water suitable for safe disposal or reuse applications.
Scope of Work
The project includes comprehensive operation and maintenance activities for the SBR sewage treatment plant, including:
- Continuous operation and monitoring of the sewage treatment plant and all associated facilities.
- Operation and maintenance of the Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) treatment system, including biological treatment cycles, aeration processes, settling, and decanting operations.
- Operation and maintenance of preliminary and tertiary treatment units, including screening systems, filtration units, and disinfection systems where applicable.
- Maintenance of mechanical equipment, including pumps, blowers, mixers, valves, pipelines, and auxiliary systems.
- Maintenance of electrical systems, control panels, Motor Control Centres (MCCs), instrumentation, automation systems, and SCADA systems where applicable.
- Monitoring influent and treated wastewater quality through laboratory testing and analysis.
- Implementation of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programmes for all plant equipment and assets.
- Inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of treatment tanks, sludge handling facilities, pipelines, and related infrastructure.
- Monitoring operational parameters and optimising SBR cycles to improve treatment efficiency and reliability.
- Troubleshooting, emergency response, and corrective actions to minimise service interruptions.
- Management of spare parts, equipment condition assessment, and replacement of defective components when required.
- Preparation of operation and maintenance plans, technical reports, performance records, and operational documentation.
- Ensuring compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements throughout project execution.
Technological Impact
The project enhances the efficiency and reliability of wastewater treatment operations at King Abdullah Developed Housing through the application of advanced SBR treatment technology and effective operation and maintenance practices. The SBR system provides flexible biological treatment control, improved treatment performance, and efficient management of wastewater flows.
The project supports sustainable wastewater management by improving treated water quality, reducing environmental impacts, optimising energy consumption, extending equipment service life, and ensuring reliable operation of the treatment facility. It contributes to the development of modern and efficient wastewater treatment infrastructure in Dehma City in accordance with environmental standards and best engineering practices.
