Operation and Maintenance of a Brackish Water Desalination Plant in Wadi Laban Palace in Riyadh Governorate

Operation and Maintenance of a Brackish Water Desalination Plant in Wadi Laban Palace in Riyadh Governorate

Project Overview

This project, carried out for the Saudi Arabia National Guard, involves comprehensive operation and maintenance services for a Brackish Water Desalination Plant located at Wadi Laban Palace in Riyadh Governorate.

The project aims to ensure the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of the desalination facility through professional operation management and the implementation of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programmes. It focuses on maintaining high-quality treated water production, improving plant reliability, optimising operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with applicable technical, environmental, and health standards.

The project supports sustainable water supply management for the National Guard facilities by enhancing the performance of desalination systems, extending equipment service life, and ensuring a reliable source of treated water.

Scope of Work

The project encompasses comprehensive operation and maintenance activities for the brackish water desalination plant, including:

  • Continuous operation and monitoring of the desalination plant and associated facilities.
  • Operation and maintenance of Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) systems, including pre-treatment units, RO membranes, pressure vessels, chemical dosing systems, and filtration equipment.
  • Operation and maintenance of raw water intake systems, feed pumps, high-pressure pumps, booster pumps, and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Maintenance of electrical systems, distribution panels, Motor Control Centres (MCCs), instrumentation, automation systems, and SCADA systems where applicable.
  • Monitoring raw water and treated water quality through laboratory testing and analysis to ensure compliance with required standards.
  • Implementation of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programmes for pumps, motors, valves, pipelines, tanks, and electromechanical equipment.
  • Inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of desalination units, water storage facilities, and related infrastructure.
  • Monitoring operational parameters and optimising plant performance to improve efficiency and reduce energy and chemical consumption.
  • Troubleshooting, emergency response, and corrective actions to minimise operational interruptions.
  • Spare parts management, equipment condition assessment, and replacement of defective components when required.
  • Preparation of operation and maintenance plans, technical reports, performance records, and operational documentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements throughout project execution.

Technological Impact

The project enhances the reliability and efficiency of water production at Wadi Laban Palace through the application of advanced operation and maintenance practices for Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) technology. The use of modern monitoring systems, instrumentation, automation, and preventive maintenance strategies improves operational control, increases water production efficiency, and enables early detection of potential faults.

The project contributes to sustainable water resource management by ensuring the continuous supply of high-quality treated water, reducing operational risks, extending equipment service life, and improving overall plant performance. It supports the implementation of modern desalination solutions and best engineering practices for reliable water infrastructure within Saudi Arabia National Guard facilities.
